A FOUL THING REVIEW:what can i say about this first short story？ it was hilarious as expect， but also ridiculously sweet and happy and it was everything i wanted and more。 chloe really spoiled us。 we got to see some of the plot form FLF happening in this too but condensed and the scene in which juliette writes the letter summoning rosalind to zhouzhuang had me just as hyped as when i first read rosalind reading it in FLF。 only this time it was kind was tinged with sadness because it means they’r A FOUL THING REVIEW:what can i say about this first short story？ it was hilarious as expect， but also ridiculously sweet and happy and it was everything i wanted and more。 chloe really spoiled us。 we got to see some of the plot form FLF happening in this too but condensed and the scene in which juliette writes the letter summoning rosalind to zhouzhuang had me just as hyped as when i first read rosalind reading it in FLF。 only this time it was kind was tinged with sadness because it means they’re going to be exposed and people will know they’re alive， and i was so happy that they were finally living the cozy and domestic life they wanted with each other。 i just hope they can still go back to zhouzhuang after FHH is over。 please chloe。 i love how much we got to see roma and juliette just express their love for one another unabashedly and wholeheartedly。 it honestly made me so teary eyed reading this short story when i wasn’t laughing at their banter （as usual）。 reading a foul thing just made me want to reread these violent delights and our violent ends all over again。 THIS FOUL MURDER REVIEW:i don’t know what i was expecting from this short story but a murder mystery taking place over the span of almost a week wasn’t it and i loved every second of it。 it had me wracking my brain to try and read between the lines and bouncing off of the theories benedikt and marshal had。 i was definitely right about the culprit from the start although i was very confused by their identity as chloe did a very good job of not explicitly describing their looks。 i was honestly very close with my guess and for good reason because my guess was actually sort of linked to who i had though it was。 the humour in this was also top-notch as expected not just from chloe but from this duo。 i missed marshall and benedikt so much and i’m so happy we got an entire novella from both their perspectives。 i can’t wait to see what they end up doing in foul heart huntsman and if we get to see an on-page reunion （i wouldn’t say this is spoilery since why else would this novella be placed between FLF and FHH if it wasn’t related to the plot of the second book in the spin-off duology/last book in the secret shanghai series。 finishing this novella means i’m now one book away from being done with this series forever and i don’t feel happy that it’s almost over。 i never want this to end！！！all in all， i just love that we got to separate stories that focus on four well-loved characters but despite not having the same exact plot， they still are very well connected and sets up the last secret shanghai book perfectly。 this was an easy 5 star read。 。。。more

*spoilers for all previous books in the secret Shanghai series*The phenomenon that is Chloe Gong returns with yet another dulogy - this time in the form of two novellas; a comedic and loving tribute to readers and characters alike。 Five years following the events of Our Violent Ends， we are reunited with dearly beloved （and recently resurrected） Romajuliette once more in ‘A Foul Thing’， where we join them in the midst of their early twenties， cottage core dream （… and at the head of an internati *spoilers for all previous books in the secret Shanghai series*The phenomenon that is Chloe Gong returns with yet another dulogy - this time in the form of two novellas; a comedic and loving tribute to readers and characters alike。 Five years following the events of Our Violent Ends， we are reunited with dearly beloved （and recently resurrected） Romajuliette once more in ‘A Foul Thing’， where we join them in the midst of their early twenties， cottage core dream （… and at the head of an international weapons smuggling ring）。 I’ve said books of Chloe’s feel like a love letter to Shanghai; these felt like a love letter to those characters - fifteen year old and seventeen year old RomaJuliette who were willing to set the world on fire （…） for one another， knowing they can live in peace now。 It had sweet call backs and ones that broke your heart as you recall just how much these two have sacrificed to live achieve the peace they have。 It was gorgeously done and intertwined so well with Foul Lady Fortune， setting up the sequel perfectly。 ‘This foul murder’ reunites reader with the other main ship of the These Violent Delights dulogy - BenMars。 Now based in Moscow; they are following orders from a certain Roma when they find themselves entangled in a murder mystery。 Only， hilariously， for two ex gang members - they are not the ones who committed it; they are the ones investigating it。 We learn tidbits of what they’ve been up to since we last read while engaging in classic humour and also just genuinely heartwarming stuff… oh， and don’t forget - this murder is directly linked to the events of the next book…。I think this was the perfect read to bridge the two series and act as an explanation for *that* Foul Lady Fortune cliffhanger。 I loved the way Chloe wrote this - it felt almost healing in the way that we’ve read these characters since they were angsty teenagers who couldn’t communicate for love nor money and now they’re equally as angsty adults but。 They’re happy。 And there was something rewarding in that; knowing all they’ve been through and all they’ve sacrificed。I also adore the way Chloe didn’t shy away from mentioning their pasts。 It is easy to forget the horrors they endured but Chloe wrote them as adults who’d lived through trauma and are still significantly effected by it - they just have another person who understands and moves forward with them。 by the way， rest assured， it’s not all cottagecore happiness - RomaJuliette are， after all， the heirs to Shanghai’s deadliest… they have a trick or two up their sleeves。（Or a knife）。also fuck you chloe because I told everyone and their mum that they were dead after the OVE epilogue so am mortified 。。。more

4。5 starsThank you so much Simon and Schuster for providing me with an advanced reader copy to read and review！ All thoughts and opinions are my own。 Forever grateful for Simon Teen <3THIS WAS AMAZING。 Chloe Gong is such an amazing writer。 Last Violent call is the perfect story（ies） to read while waiting for Foul Heart Huntsman （Foul Lady Fortune #2）。 If you haven't read Foul Lady Fortune， or the These Violent Delights duology for that matter， this is your sign。 Last Violent Call consists of two 4。5 starsThank you so much Simon and Schuster for providing me with an advanced reader copy to read and review！ All thoughts and opinions are my own。 Forever grateful for Simon Teen <3THIS WAS AMAZING。 Chloe Gong is such an amazing writer。 Last Violent call is the perfect story（ies） to read while waiting for Foul Heart Huntsman （Foul Lady Fortune #2）。 If you haven't read Foul Lady Fortune， or the These Violent Delights duology for that matter， this is your sign。 Last Violent Call consists of two short stories， A Foul Thing and This Foul Murder。 A Foul Thing explores Roma and Juliette's life off the grid after the events of Foul Lady Fortune， and it was such a great read。 I loved how Chloe talked about Juliette's trauma and her healing process， adding quotes like "They emerged back into the world， deciding that they had done what they could for their city and it was time to choose themselves， at long last。" （This made me tear up） and was able to write her in this setting without taking away from the characters roots。 She's still violent and stubborn， the perfect pair to Roma :，）It was so nice to be reading about RomaJuliette again， truly one of my favourite fictional ships。 Chloe was able to write a story in 100 pages that was cozy and sweet while also being action packed and exciting， I was never left bored。 I also was amazed at how Chloe was able to introduce whole new characters without making the story cramped or confusing， no threads were left bare。 Mila is a new favourite character of mine， I love her and can't wait for you all to meet her！ This story was perfect and ended so well， I am in such anticipation for Foul Heart Huntsman。 This Foul Murder follows Benedict and Marshal when they're sent on a train by Roma （for a task you will understand when reading） and when their trip is threatened to be interrupted by a murder on the train， they take on the task of finding the culprit。 This was soooo fun I love murder mysteries。 I loved how in such a short amount of time Chloe can pack in so much， I did not expect the amount of twists in these stories and plot points that caught me off guard。 Also loved reading how Ben and Mars' are also still healing from everything they've lived through， and how that can be seen through small acts。 My only critic is that it took a bit to get things going in this story， there was not a lot happening at first， but caught up later on。 I am on EDGE for Foul Heart Huntsman， I highly recommend adding The Secret Shanghai books to your tbr！ 。。。more
